In chapter six of into the wild Franz takes Alex’s advice and sells everything he owns he then goes out and lives near the spot where Alex camped. Even in his old age he stayed fit but when one day he picked up a hitchhiker who had read the Outsider and told Franz that his friend Alex had died he hit the whiskey. When he does not die of drinking he abandons his religion. In chapter seven Alex works for Wayne Westerberg in preparation of his trip and on his last few nights they go to a bar and he reviles that he is very skilled at the piano. Then he sends postcards back to his few friends which show that he knows he may die on this trip and they he may never see them again. In chapter eight McCandless is compared to other rash exotic explorers Rosellini, Waterman, and McCunn. All of these young visionaries walked out into the wild and experienced their own downfall. However Krakauer tries to tell us that McCandless is different from the others and is his own type of breed. In chapter nine Krakauer compares McCandless to Russ Everett who went off and explored and was entranced by the wild. Then he compares both Russ and Alex to Papar monks of Ireland who were forced to move to Greenland. These are the events that transpired in chapters 6 to 9
